Things to Do in Sedona

Unlike most towns of 10,000 people, you’re not likely to be bored in Sedona, Arizona. In fact, you’ll have the opposite problem. There are literally so many fun things to do that you’ll have a hard time seeing everything in even a week! It’s no surprise that so many of the people that visit Sedona come back for their 2nd, 3rd, or even 10th time! There’s something special about Sedona and it’s for everyone regardless of your age, interests, or abilities. Here at the Verde Canyon Railroad, we love this area so much we want to make sure you know about the good stuff and, of course, that you come back and see us at different times of the year to experience the varied landscape and special events we offer exclusive access to. Below is a list of guides we’ve built out to help you choose the best things to do in Sedona regardless of the time of the year, weather, or the size of your group.

In the Winter

Despite being so far south, you may surprised to learn that Sedona actually does get snow from time to time. Don’t worry, though, it’s usually just a light dusting, and it typically doesn’t stick around for very long. While July highs may reach 100 degrees, their January equivalent may only be in the 50s. If you’ve got a trip planned during this part of the year, you’ll want to visit this page.

In the Summer

You may think that summer is the worst time to visit Arizona, but Sedona’s Verde Valley isn’t like the rest of our hot dry state. At 4500-foot elevation, the climate is still temperate enough to attract folks from much hotter Phoenix and groups from all over the world. Learn more about some of the great things to do here in the summer on this page.

For Couples

Whether you’re planning a wedding, or just a weekend getaway, the Sedona area is a romantic option that’s still unique and fun. From wine tasting to natural water slides, Sedona’s Verde Valley has something for every couple whether you’re staying a week or just a day. Learn more about what to do here.

For Kids

No matter what your kid is in to, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here. Outdoor adventures, cowboys, safaris, Old West trains… Sedona’s Verde Valley has it all. Learn more about some of the local activities we recommend.

For Families

Fun for all ages with varying interests, Sedona is the perfect choice for your next family reunion or weekend trip. It’s sure to be an experience you all will remember. Check out this page for specific ideas for your next family outing.

For the Outdoorsy

If you’re the outdoorsy type, you need to put Sedona’s Verde Valley on your bucket list. It’s exceptional, high-desert climate has Southwestern seasons like few other places in Arizona, and with the rustic plateaus and rough canyons you’d expect. Very accessible, its beauty is one of a kind. See our suggestions for the top 10 places to visit on this page.

When it Rains

With over 300 days of sunshine each year, Sedona’s Verde Valley may not get much rain, but fortunately for us, we’re not as dry as the rest of Arizona either. You won’t typically see endless days of rain and mist, rather hard, intense monsoon-type rains during certain times of the year. Luckily, there are still plenty of things to do if it does end up raining. Check out this page for our suggestions.
